Amelia Island is a small island off the coast of Florida, similar in size to Manhattan. The island was once owned by Spain, and was an important slave-smuggling destination. The United States outlawed slave importation in 1808, but Spain had no such law. Slave ships offloaded human cargo at Amelia Island, smuggling them into the United States. By the turn of the 20th century, the island was home to the first Black resort in the country. The Civil War prompted many Black families to purchase land on the island and integrate into local communities. At that time, landowners of color were often barred from swimming with White people.
The Boca Raton
For an unforgettable tennis vacation, consider staying at the upscale The Boca Raton resort. It features championship golf, world-class tennis, and white-sand beaches. The Boca Raton Club tower was opened in 1969 and is the tallest building in southern Palm Beach County, with 27 floors and 300 feet of height. This area is also home to the Boca Bungalows, which are clusters of bungalows on the golf course. The Boca Beach Club, which was renovated and opened in 1980, is an active social scene, featuring restaurants, upscale shopping, and a jazz club.
The Boca Resort was once known as the Boca Delray Beach resort. It was a popular tennis destination, and the new name reflects the high-end resort vibe of this upscale city. While Boca is not on the coast, it’s close to many pristine beaches and other Florida attractions. In fact, it’s one of the few tennis vacation destinations that features an oceanfront restaurant. Food is also delivered right to your lawn chair in Boca.

The Resort at Longboat Key Club offers unmatched Florida water activities. It boasts the largest marina on Florida’s west coast and is ideal for family vacations, romantic getaways, or just a tropical escape.
